On the ten mile walk we were treated to everything from an Iron Age cooking oven to a wooden railway bridge and from the celtic cross on Gelligaer Common to the heron, that wasn’t there.
Despite the recent bad weather most of the water was in the rivers and not on the paths
Of course, Tom made sure that those on the six mile walk got back well ahead of the rest of us and started to enjoy the buffet. Although they had a good headstart on the rest of us, thanks to the wonderful layout there was plenty to eat for all. Two great walks, thoroughly enjoyed by all.
The Area walks this year, hosted by the Group, consisted of a 6 mile moderate and a 10 mile moderate/stren. Both walks, in the Darren Valley, started from Parc Cwm Darren visitors centre where a buffet was enjoyed at the end of the walks. The 6 miler was led by Tom Thomas and the 10 miler by Jim Evans.

Eighty two and a half walkers set out (yet another baby) 31 on the 6 miler and the rest (51) doing ten miles with Jim. Wall to wall sunshine all day was what the weather forecast said and for once it was right.
