There were 35 participants for this Saturday walk, much to the surprise of Gareth and Liz Thomas who were the walks leaders. Although the weather started off a little misty, it was quite pleasant and towards the end of the walk the sun finally won the battle and we ended in bright sunshine.

We were given a very interesting talk about the canal and its 14 lock system which enabled the transit of goods from the Pontypool area down to Newport.  Although the canal was constructed in the late 18th century, parts of  it were still operational at the end of the 2nd World War.

Almost a tropical look to this part of the canal; returned to nature.
